Eliza Coupe is an American actress who gained widespread popularity for her character Denise “Jo” Mahoney in the medical comedy series “Scrubs.”
She began acting professionally in 2003. Eliza Coupe first entered show business through theater, became part of the cast of an all-female production of “King Lear,” which toured France. Two years later, she starred in her one-woman sketch show “The Patriots.” The show had its premiere at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in New York, and her performance eventually earned her the award of best breakout performer at HBO’s U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen in March 2006.
Since her one-woman sketch show, Eliza Coupe began working on screen, beginning with an appearance in “I Think I Love My Wife” in 2007. She also had a brief role in the film “The Day The World Saved Shane Sawyer” in 2006.
Also in 2007, Eliza Coupe had a role in the short-lived MTV show “Short Circuitz,” and appeared in more television programs. These include a one-episode role in the first season of “Flight of the Conchords,” and an episode of the TV series “Unhitched.” Not long after, she became a regular in the HBO series “12 Miles of Bad Road.” Eliza Coupe also had a recurring role in “Samantha Who?” which starred Christina Applegate.
Later in 2008, Eliza Coupe was cast in the recurring character of Dr. Denise “Jo” Mahoney in the medical comedy series “Scrubs.” While she was initially credited for a recurring character in the series, it is confirmed that she will become a regular character in the show’s ninth season.
In 2009, Eliza Coupe was cast as the character of Callie in the ABC pilot episode for the show “No Heroics,” an American adaptation of the UK TV series of the same name. She also made a guest appearance in the TV series “Royal Pains.”
